tile area (m²) = tile length × tile width tiles = ⌈area ÷ tile area × (1 + waste%)⌉ adhesive = ⌈area × 4 kg/m² ÷ bag size⌉ tile cost = area × (1 + waste%) × price per m²
FAQ
- How do I calculate how many tiles I need?
- Divide the area to tile by the area of one tile, then add a waste allowance for cuts (10% straight, up to 20% for complex patterns). This calculator does it automatically and also estimates adhesive bags.
- How much tile waste should I allow?
- Allow about 10% for a straight lay, 15% for diagonal or herringbone, and up to 20% for complex or small-format patterns with lots of cuts.
- How much tile adhesive do I need per square metre?
- Roughly 4 kg/m² for standard floor tiles with a notched trowel, more for large-format or uneven substrates. A 20 kg bag covers about 5 m².
- Does this include grout and labour?
- This estimates tiles and adhesive. Create a free BuilderBuddi account to build the full tiling estimate with grout, labour by lay pattern, and your margin.
