How the flooring calculation works

area (m²) = length × width
area (with waste)= area × (1 + waste%)
boxes            = ⌈area ÷ box coverage⌉
flooring cost = boxes × price per box

FAQ

How do I calculate how much laminate flooring I need?
Work out the room area (length × width), add about 10% for cuts and waste, then divide by the coverage of one box (printed on the pack) and round up. This calculator does it and estimates the cost.
How much flooring waste should I allow?
Allow 10% for straight rooms, and up to 15% for diagonal layouts, angled rooms, or long planks in a small space.
How many square metres are in a box of laminate?
It varies by product — commonly 1.8–2.5 m² per box. Always use the coverage printed on the pack; the default here is 2.2 m².
Does this include underlay and trims?
This estimates the flooring boxes. Create a free BuilderBuddi account to build the full flooring estimate with underlay, trims, and labour.
